General comment about the game
Promotion chasing Oxford welcomes struggling York to a Wednesday clash in the English division 3. Promotion hopefuls Oxford has been quite a good side through out the season, especially at home. Lately however they seem to have been in a little down trend. Only one point in their four last away games is not impressing, although two of the games were against good sides Hull and Yeovil. The point taken came last weekend in the game against Bristol Rovers. For one hour Oxford played very well and they were up 1-0. But in the end of the game they became less aggressive and let Bristol into the game, who thanked by scoring an equaliser. In the dying minutes of the game Oxford were very close to steal all the points when they had a very good shot just outside the goal. The home games during the last rounds have seen two wins and two draws. The wins have been with the single goal and in the end of the games so they have not been strikingly perfect. What has been the case in many of those games is the same as in the Bristol game mentioned above. Oxford has played very well during a major part of the game and then they have lowered their speed. Manager Atkins believes that they have played quite good lately but that they have been punished for every mistake they have done. Now Oxford has the perfect possibility of getting a clear home win since they play one of the worst form teams in the league. The squad will get a boost by the recent loan signing of midfielder/full back Barry Quinn from Coventry. He will go straight into the team tomorrow. However, top scorer Steve Basham (30 apps, 12 goals) is doubtful once again. He missed last game because of a hamstring injury and manager Atkins will be careful with his asset and not risk him if he is not fit enough.
York is a lower mid table team that has been in a very bad trend lately. In the form table over the ten last rounds they can be found on position 23 with only seven points. If we look even closer at their statistics we see that they have only taken one single point from their last seven games and that was away to struggling Southend. Last weekend York should have played Scunthorpe but due to the weather the game was postponed. The week before however, a very gloomy York side played away to Boston United in a game ending with a 2-0 victory for the home side. As we wrote in our Torquay – Boston analysis lately, York did not upset at all in this game. To this game York will miss their combative and influential midfielder Darren Dunning (31 apps, 1 goal).
We believe in a strong home side here and go for a medium stake 3% on Oxford.
